Book Club: In My Words: The Stories of an Autistic Boy FLEX Class

In this class, we will group read the text and discuss its content. I will post a reading of at least 25 pages each week using nearpod. The learner is encouraged to follow along in their own book but not required. After the reading, we will discuss the challenges that Robbie faces and how they align with the challenges that we face using the Outschool classroom and FlipGrid. This course will be a safe space for members of the autism community to discuss what the world is like for them and share how they cope. This flex class is ideal for those that have trouble sitting for the duration of a live class. This is also ideal for students with autism that are nonverbal. It is also a great place for students that want to learn more about this topic and get a look into what life is like for their friends, siblings, and family members with autism. The class will include discussion where were will we have discussions about the proper way to handle specific situations that we encounter. We will also talk about strategies that we use to manage stress. Students will be given links to other outside resources to further their learning as well. Students are not required to have the book as we will read aloud. This is a discussion based flex class for those who feel more comfortable not taking a live class
